Knights and Ladies of the Golden Rule

 

A secret beneficiary society, organized in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1879 by survivors of the yellow fever epidemic of 1878 as the Knights of the Golden Rule. The founders were members of the Order of Mutual Aid, the Ancient Order of United Workmen and the Knights of Honor. Shortly after its formation, ladies were admitted and the organization became the Knights and Ladies of the Golden Rule. The total membership was over 3,000 in 1907. 10 years later the order disappeared.
